Discipleship Process

Jesus said: “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.” Matthew 28:19-20

Connect_Nurture_Serve There’s more to Christian faith than just knowing that your sins are forgiven. Jesus clearly encourages us to continually grow in our faith and discipleship. To clarify the process of spiritual growth, Holy Cross encourages three areas of emphasis.

Solomon wrote: A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. Ecclesiates 4:12

As a rope is made stronger by intertwining several cords, so our walk with God is strengthened when we focus on each of three aspects of Christian discipleship:
Connect, Nurture, & Serve.

ConnectCONNECT
God’s people are connected to God (through weekly worship) and to Each Other (in Small Group settings).

AM I GROWING?
Worship
Is weekly worship an integral part of my life? Do I put my heart, soul and mind into my time in worship? As I worship, do I open my heart to God and allow Him to speak to me through His Word and Sacrament?

Small Groups
God reaches out and connects with us through our relationships with other Christians. At Holy Cross we believe that Small Groups are one of the best ways to build community and connections. In our Small Groups you will have the opportunity to develop relationships and SmallGroup1fellowship with other Christians on your journey to follow Jesus. You will develop the kind of love Jesus called us to, when He said, “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you” (John 15:12)

How We Can Help
Our Faith Life Encourager will schedule a time to meet with you to discuss the Discipleship Process and your growth in faith and discipleship. He will encourage the spiritual discipline of regular worship, and will assist with getting connected in a Small Group setting. You may also contact one of our Small Group Leaders on your own. For more information on our Small Group Ministry CLICK HERE.

Ongoing Connections
Participate in weekly worship and involvement in a Small Group setting.

Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. Acts 2

NurtureNURTURE
God’s people continually nurture their relationship with God through personal and on-going corporate Bible Study.

AM I GROWING?
At Holy Cross Lutheran Church we offer many Studies of the Bible for the nurture and growth of our member families and friends. Ask yourself if you are currently nurturing your relationship with Jesus through Bible Study with other HighlightingChristians and personal prayer and devotional life. At Holy Cross an emphasis is placed on encouraging one another in our spiritual maturity.

How We Can Help
We offer many opportunities for the Study of the Bible for all ages at various times and differing schedules. We also offer lots of materials to enhance your devotional life and your personal study of God’s Word.
To assist in your spiritual growth, we offer many classes and seminars on the personal study of God’s Word as well as how to develop the spiritual disciple of daily devotions, meditation and prayer time.

On-Going Nurture
Develop a personal Prayer and Devotional life and participate regularly in Group Studies of the Bible

Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation. 1 Peter 2

Serve2Serve
God’s people use their God-given gifts and talents in ways that impact the lives of others with God’s love.

AM I GROWING?
As yourself whether you are responding to the request of Jesus when He said, “Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant”. Are you investing yourself in the life of others and their needs, or do you tend to think primarily of your own wants and needs? When we think outside of ourselves, we become more and more like Jesus who lived a Servant Life for us. We grow spiritually when we serve.

BEtheChurchHow We Can Help
At Holy Cross Lutheran Church we offer many opportunities to grow in faith as we live selflessly and serve our community. As a part of our Discipleship Process, Holy Cross Lutheran Church encourages growth in faith and discipleship by investing in opportunities for God’s people to serve the community through various ministry opportunities. We provide weekends periodically where all God’s people are encouraged to “Not Just GO to Church, but BE the Church” by addressing various community needs. We do that because Scripture is very clear that we grow spiritually AS we reach out to others and minister to their needs. Jesus said: “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” Matthew 25:40.

On-Going Service
Discover the joy of sharing God’s blessings with others and use all of life to to meet the needs of people across the street and around the world.

“Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave-- just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20
