“Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect” 1 Peter 3:15.
Jesus didn’t give His followers the option of sharing the Gospel of salvation with others. It is an assumed thing. One of the last things Jesus said was: “You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth" Acts 1:8.
Helpful tips on how to share your faith:
- Memorize Scripture
Helpful passages to know include: John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 3:23, Romans 3:28, Romans 6:23, Romans 10:9
- Know what you plan to say. Think about the difference that has Jesus made in your life. Then write it out, so you have an outline to follow before the opportunity arises to share it.
- Don’t use theological talk. Just say it in your own words.
- Pray for Opportunities. As soon as you open yourself to be used by God, watch out!
- Trust the Holy Spirit
“Do not worry about what to say or how to say it. At that time you will be given what to say, for it will not be you speaking, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you.” Matthew 10:19
ASK QUESTIONS Another less “confrontational” approach is to simply ask questions. Then let them talk.
- Do you have any spiritual beliefs?
- What do you think about God?
- Do you think there’s a heaven?
- If you died right now, would you go to heaven?
- If God wanted to communicate with us, how do you think He’d do that?
- Do you have any thoughts about who Jesus was?
- If you happened to be mistaken in your beliefs, would you like to know?
