Coffee Hour

Coffee Hour Responsibilities

Begin making coffee by 7:45 a.m. Make 50 cups regular coffee and 30 cups decaf coffee. In the winter months, make 20 cups of hot water for tea or hot chocolate.

Use the DeLonghi pots. Fill cold water to desired cup level and insert stem well in heating unit at the bottom of maker and place basket on stem. For 50 cups, use 3¼ cups coffee and for 30 cups use 1¾ cups coffee. If there is no coffee in refrigerator, check the shelf behind pantry door. Spread grounds evenly in basket. Do not let any grounds fall into “stem opening.” Plug one coffee pot in the corner by the stove and the other pot by the phone in the kitchen. Turn switches to “On.”

Do not perk coffee in the foyer or plug coffee makers in the same outlet because you will blow a fuse. When coffee is perked, unplug and carefully wheel both carts to Great Room. Do not plug coffee makers back in unless you have removed filters or it will begin perking again.

Set Up & Clean Up

Set up two tables in the Great Room and drape with tablecloth. Use cloth linens available in the drawer or use plastic tablecloth rolls located in the pantry.

Place a basket for donations to help offset the cost of the refreshments. You can split all donations among each contributor. If you wish, you can post a sign on the table identifying your small group as sponsors for that morning’s coffee hour.

Make sure the area is cleaned up by 10:45 a.m. Throw all used napkins and cups in the trash and clear tables of food and crumbs. Fold tables and place in closet. Wash coffee makers out thoroughly with water only.

Refreshments

Order 30 dozen donut holes from Marsh on Fox Rd. (Recommend 10 dozen glazed, 10 dozen powered, and 10 dozen sugar—no cake donut holes, please!) If you wish, you can also provide coffee cakes, muffins, bagels & cream cheese, breakfast casseroles, etc. The Wonder Break or Entenmanns’s outlets are good places for less expensive food items. We typically provide 2 gallons of juice and 2 gallons of milk. Call Marsh Bakery at 823-5422 by the Wednesday before the Sunday you need to pick up the donut holes.

Try to set refreshments out as close to 9:30 a.m. as possible so goodies are not enjoyed before the 8:30 service has concluded. Also, please remain at the table during the coffee hour to greet people and to monitor any children who might take too many.

If you have extra food, you can take it home for your family, divide it between your small group, or put it in the freezer. If you place it in the freezer, let the next Sunday’s coffee hour volunteer serve know of the remainder.

Thank you for your help! We appreciate what you do to serve one another!
